The common puckle is no longer common, being in fact quite rare throughout its remaining range. This is due to intense hunting by humans, who prize the common puckle for its exceptionally sweet flesh–which some have compared to ice cream in flavor and texture when cooked–and revile it as a witch. The common puckle’s cry, a long, drawn-out “PUK-PUK-PUK-PUKLLLLLLLE” is believed to be a portent of doom, and that only by killing and eating the offending puckle can one avoid misfortune.
