I was assaulted the other day
By the strange strong scent of bandages
That antiseptic odor, malingering around
Medicine cabinets and hospitals
But it was outside, on a clear day
No bandages in sight, no nearby pharmacy
Perhaps the scent of a wounded world
About to be swaddled and balmed
Or perhaps the air of a bandage
Offered apologetically, meagerly
When only a blood transfusion would do
