This post is part of the November Blog Chain at Absolute Write. This month’s challenge is to write a drabble: a story exactly 100 words long.
“But it seemed so real…” Ohns said, tears in his eyes.
“That’s how dreams are,” said the dark-haired child. “We make sense of them, fill in the details.”
“What’s going to happen to everyone?” Ohns cried.
“The sleeper must awaken, but nothing will be lost. We will wake up, and be whole once more.”
Ohns nodded hesitantly. “I think I’m ready.”
The sky bloomed with radiance, overwhelming everything—from the twilight city of Eswe to Clen by his lake–and gently washing it away.
In the ICU, Jackie Sullivan awoke, and Ohns’ world vanished into the recesses of his being.

This feels like part of something much bigger, as these things often do, but is both surreal and lovely.

Thanks! The name of the site is excerpts, after all 🙂

It does feel apart of something bigger.
Did character wake up from a coma or were they transported into another world(not the end of something but a journey. If that makes sense). It leaves you with wanting more. Yes Hillary I agree it’s very surreal. Still fab though.

Thank you! If you do want a little more, there’s another excerpt by the same “author” that can provide a little extra context…or maybe just more questions 🙂

Interesting story, Orion, very suspenseful. It makes me want to know what is going on here.

I’m with the girls: it has the surreal and loveliness of an actual dream state. It leaves me wondering too. Very well written!

So who’s the dreamer and who’s the dream?…cool.
